A person who supports feminism.
The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
Feminist magazines/zines have been around for a while but now more than ever we are seeing more and more popping up proving the feminist zine movement is still going strong.
As I have chosen to feature one or more female-led feminist zine in my own posterzine I wanted to research what was already out there not just in London but everywhere. There were so many different zines out there all with their own style and approach towards discussing a variety of topics and issues aimed towards a feminist audience. They were all really interesting to read and look at and I got a real sense of why they’re so popular and needed right now. Seeing such a wide variety will definitely help me towards creating my own zine.
Here are some quotes from the various feminist zines/magazines I looked at along with my favourite covers of theirs.
“Not for silly bitches on a diet”-Knockback magazine
“RGM is here to empower our diverse audience. We also strive to create a space for women of colour, trans women, queer women and disabled women”-Riot Grrrl magazine
“We are a non profit zine making fun of society’s expectations of women”-Girls Dont magazine
“Bitch medias mission is to provide and encourage and engaged, thoughtful, feminist response to mainstream media and popular culture”-Bitch magazine
“One of My Kind zine is a highly visual, small-press publication about women, art and activism”-OOMK magazine
“Riposte is a smart magazine for women. We profile bold and fascinating women whose achievements speak for themselves. Our interviews are honest rather than being full of media trained responses as the women we feature candidly discuss their successes & failures, their work, their passions and perspectives”-Riposte magazine
